Barnabee the Bumblebee is the main character in my two children's books. How did I come up with him? Well funny (and true) story . . . I had a "pet" bumblebee! No, I didn't actually pet Barnabee, but he would always be near and hover over my shoulder. Never once did he try to sting me or my husband or my son. He would chase away any other flying insects that came near me. It was really kind of amazing because I had never had anything like that happen before.
I'm not sure if Barnabee was a male or female bee, but that was the name I gave to "him". This happened for several years in a row--a big bumblebee would act the same way as the original Barnabee . . . And Barnabee the Bumblebee, the character, was born!
